Alan Evans, Director of Regeneration at Wirral Council, said: “This project is part of our ambitious regeneration plans that will transform the borough.

“Education and skills are central to regeneration and we have a strong partnership with Wirral Met College and together with Morgan Sindall and the wider employers involved, we will ensure the opportunities that regeneration provides enables our local community to benefit from the jobs it will generate and through this partnership we will transform life chances and choices as part of our ambitious regeneration plans.”

Gill Roberts, Social Value Manager at Morgan Sindall said: “This marks the start of a really exciting journey to deliver real social impact and change.

“A long-standing frustration of mine is the huge amount of effort the industry puts into encouraging people into construction compared to that which is offered to those that have actually chosen construction and leave college without a job.

“The North West team at Morgan Sindall have worked with Wirral Met College for many years, but like most companies this has generally been on an ad-hoc basis. This Education Partnership provides a structured approach tailored to the college, an agreement that we will work long-term with them to make a difference.

“Together with our committed supply chain we will ensure the curriculum makes sure students are future ready and sufficiently prepared to access the breadth of opportunities on offer in construction.”

Sue Higginson said: “We are delighted to continue our work with Morgan Sindall through a firm partnership commitment that will enable our students to harness the job opportunities available for them.

“This will help them to transform their own life chances whilst they become part of the implementation of our ambitious plans for the regeneration in Birkenhead and more widely in Wirral.  How exciting for us that our staff and students will literally be contributing to building their own community for future generations to enjoy. What a legacy!”
