Tiny Stars Charity Lunch raises £5k

Wirral fundraising supremo’s Mandy Molby and Claire Gallagher hosted a charity lunch at Thornton Hall Hotel to help raise funds for Tiny Stars, the special care unit at Arrowe Park Hospital.

The event, sponsored by Hallmark Jewellers and Wirral Handmade Gin company, was attended by 150 guests. Claire Simmo hosted the event and guest speaker was Gillian Kearney.

Wirral University Teaching Hospital Charity, WUTH Charity is a young charity which only started fundraising actively last year. Now with a team of three, they have a challenge to raise 1.5 million for the Neonatal Unit at Arrowe Park Hospital through the Tiny Stars Appeal.

Last year 400 babies needed extra help in the first few days and weeks of their lives from the unit. The care the babies and their families receive is outstanding and the hope is to match this care with a brand new unit.

The ambitious plans are to double the footprint of the unit allowing more space around every babies incubator. There will also be additional facilities to help parents at such a difficult time.

The appeal has had a great first few months and have raised the first ¼ of a million, but has a long way to go yet.

Head of Fundraising Victoria Burrows said “I would just like to thank everyone on behalf of the charity team and the hospital for your support.  It was a great day, thank you  to everyone who gave their time for free and Jumping Jacks who provided the balloons. We raised over 5k for Tiny Stars.

The charity team are looking for individuals, businesses and groups to get involved with the appeal so do get in touch with the Charity team for more details:  wuth.charity@NHS.net  / 0151 482 7788.
