What is Wirral Waters?

Wirral Waters is one of the UK’s largest and most exciting regeneration projects. Peel Waters is transforming an area of largely derelict ‘brownfield’ land around the old Birkenhead docks, into new neighbourhoods and communities for people to live, work and visit. Over the next 20 years, thousands of new homes will be created, alongside developments that will help create thousands of new jobs in the area.

What can we see happening now?

Most of the activity has been around the Four Bridges area along Tower Road, and the Northbank neighbourhood along Dock Road.

The first thing you will notice is that the place has got a lot greener. Hundreds of new trees and shrubs line the streets, the banks of Dock Road are thick with wildflowers, and the new park has hundreds of different types of plant life for local residents to enjoy. Wirral Waters has also got a lot busier in the last few years.

The Kingsgate office has been joined recently by Hythe, between them now employing hundreds of the people. Wirral Met College’s purpose-built construction campus, with hundreds of staff and students, adds to the buzz of the growing Four Bridges neighbourhood.

Tower Road and Dock Road have also had their own makeovers, with more space for cyclists and pedestrians, sitting alongside new shrubs, trees, and waterside access.

The Northbank residential neighbourhood is also developing at speed. The first new residents have moved in at Redbridge Quay, the new park is blooming, dockside walkways are in place, and along the water’s edge at Millers Quay 500 sustainable new homes are currently under construction alongside retail and community spaces.

What happens next?

Over the coming years the Northbank neighbourhood will continue to develop, delivering much needed new homes and making waterside living accessible for all. Across the water the iconic Grade II listed Hydraulic Tower is set for a new lease of life as the Maritime Knowledge Hub, bringing hundreds of jobs to the area and transforming an architectural icon.

Egerton Village at Four Bridges will bring new spaces for work, retail, events and a restaurant – offering a new focal point for the growing community.

And all this is just the start, with the regeneration of the area continuing for years to come.

The bright red homes!

Many of you will have seen the new homes that make up the first phase of Redbridge Quay while driving along Dock Road, and yes, some of them are red. Bright red.

Let me introduce ‘Row House’ a beautiful Victorian terrace, brought bang up to date.

Designed by Liverpool architects shedkm, these award-winning homes are energy efficient and available with two, three and four-bedrooms. They are precision engineered using modern methods of construction and exceed all carbon reduction targets.

You can choose from two, two-and-a-half or three storeys, with open-plan living and tonnes of natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the new homes.

Row House sits adjacent to the larger Town House; three-storey homes built to give you space and light, right on the dock edge. Expect high-ceilings, towering doors and large windows in a flexible, home that allows you to live exactly how you like.

These innovative homes sit alongside pocket parks, dockside walkways, and lots of fresh air, all helping to support happier and healthier communities.
