Queens Platinum Jubilee

Dozens of events from street parties organised by neighbours to picnics and balls are set to take place across the whole of Wirral to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

One of the key events which will see the Jubilee weekend getting underway will be the lighting of Wirral’s Jubilee Beacon by Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Jeff Green at the Grand Entrance Archway at Birkenhead Park on Thursday June 2.

The flagship park will also host a Picnic in the Park on Sunday 5 June (11am – 2pm) as part of the Big Jubilee Lunch organised by Friends of Birkenhead Park. People are invited to bring their own picnic, chairs and rugs to the field opposite to the Visitor Centre (Balaclava Field) where they will celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the 175th anniversary of Birkenhead Park.

Street parties organised by local communities are also taking place across the borough. A total of 78 roads have been given permission to be closed to traffic while street parties take place at various times between Thursday 2nd and Monday 6th June 2022. A full list of those can be found on the council news website WirralView.com.

Organisers can register their event on the official Platinum Jubilee website. You can also share your photographs and see what others have been doing using the #WirralJubilee hashtag on social media.
