Young Wirral Underdogs ‘Zulu’ Win Liverpool Rocks!

Zulu Band

A newly formed young Indie Rock band ‘Zulu’, from Wirral Grammar School For Boys, have beaten 27 other unsigned Merseyside bands to win the Liverpool Rocks! Battle of the Band 2017 competition which took place over 4 stages & 10 separate nights.

After successfully passing through the previous rounds, the final was held on April 29th at the O2 Academy Liverpool, where Zulu played against the 4 other groups that were successful in reaching the final.

Zulu played an assortment of both covers and original songs to a sold-out O2 Academy. After all the groups had played, the results were announced at the end of the night and with the crowd firmly behind them, Zulu claimed 1st place as well as the £750 grand prize.

The story is all the more remarkable considering this set of gigs is the first time Zulu have played live and they only entered the competition in the first place by chance after another band had dropped out of the competition.

Many successful local bands have entered and won the competition in previous years including highly successful local band ‘The Basement Effect’ who were runners up in the 2015 event.

Zulu are next playing live at a Fusion event at The Zanzibar Club on Saturday 24th June with more gig dates to be released very shortly.
