Current Merseyside Woman of the Year, Sue Connerty, is urging people to nominate the region’s unsung heroines for this year’s awards.
Nominations for the 2019 Merseyside Women of the Year (MWOTY) awards close on Tuesday 7 May, with the glittering ceremony set to take place on Friday 28 June at the Crowne Plaza in Liverpool City Centre.
Sue Connerty won the coveted overall title and the Community Foundation for Merseyside Inspirational Woman Award at the 2018 ceremony. She was presented the accolade for the work of her charity, the Walking With Giants Foundation.
The Foundation helps parents with children affected by a rare condition collectively known as Microcephalic Primordial Dwarfism (MPD). She co-founded the charity in 2008 with her husband, John, after her own son, Alex, was diagnosed with a form of MPD.
Sue said: “Being named Merseyside Woman of the Year has completely changed my life. The support of the team and sponsors has helped me to build my confidence and enabled me to do even more for the Foundation.
“If there is an unsung heroine in your life that you think deserves recognition and could benefit from a wider platform, I urge you to nominate them for this year’s awards. Not only do they shine a light on the most incredible women in the region, they raise them up and help them to thrive.
“Thanks to the MWOTY team I have been able to not only help people with MPD now, but also start creating a legacy for people in the future, so it is easier for them to find the help and support they need.”
The annual independent awards ceremony, which celebrates the achievements of women from across Merseyside features categories including Arts & Culture, Business Leader, Community Change, Entrepreneur, Inspirational, Social Impact, Women’s Group, Women Making a Difference, Women of Courage and Young Female Apprentice.
Ellen Kerr, from Merseyside Women of the Year Awards, said: “We welcome nominations from all areas of interest and all walks of life, from the much-loved school dinner lady to high-flying business leaders and everything in between. If there is a superstar in your world, we want to hear about them!”
The coveted top prize will be presented by Michael W Halsall Solicitors, who return as headline sponsor for the sixth consecutive year. Other category sponsors for 2019 include Leonard Curtis, Community Foundation for Merseyside, Courage & Sparkle, Knowsley Chamber, Curtins, Alder Training, Everton FC and FPC Financial Services.
Nominations will be open until Tuesday 7 May 2019 and judging day will take place on Wednesday 15 May 2019. You can nominate online, via email or in writing by post.
